Dear whoever is reading this,

My name is Aurion Wilson, and welcome to my Junior portfolio. If I had to describe my Junior year in one word it would be hectic. It’s safe to say that it’s best not to expect certain things to happen in life -- just make sure you’re prepared. I don’t think i’ve ever been so overwhelmed, emotional, and confused in my whole life. This year I’ve fell behind, had mental, emotional, and physical breakdowns, and I’ve even reached the point where I wanted to be done with everything. On a more positive note, this year has taught me some of the best life lessons.

Coming into this year, I thought would be easy because I passed both of the required ECA’s needed to graduate; I was wrong. Not saying passing those tests wasn’t a good thing, but I assumed it would make my junior year a breeze. I don’t think I completely understood what I was in for when I signed up for the AP American Diversity course. I think I was more in awe of the fact that I was actually in a “smart” class. I’ve never really classified myself as one of those extreme genius students, mostly due to lack of self-confidence, but I wanted to try something new. I can’t sit here and say that it wasn’t my fault that this class was a major pain in the -- you know, because to be honest i’m a procrastinator who doesn’t know how to use her time wisely. This portfolio is a prime example. If you don’t want to be extremely tired and feel under pressure 24/7, procrastination is NOT for you. Save yourself while you can.

In a way it felt good having this class. I got to walk around the halls knowing that my teachers believed in me enough to keep me in the class, even when I was failing miserably. I should have been kicked out a long time ago. My work ethic was horrible, I didn’t work well with others, especially if I felt they were nerds because they’d intimidate me intellectually, I barely stayed on task 89% of the time, and my main goal was getting to the end of the 2 hours without dying. You may be wondering, “Was this class really that bad?”, “Do I even want to take it?” -- I say take it at your own risk. If you’re going to be like me, absolutely not, but if you’re someone who enjoys a challenge, and doesn’t crack under pressure too easily. go right ahead. It’s all about believing in yourself, staying on top of your game, and keeping your priorities straight.

Though it may seem like I had a lot of negative things to say, I’m honeymoon happy that I got the opportunity to experience AP. The best way to learn is by experiencing, and if I hadn’t taken this course as soon as I did, I probably wouldn’t have learned this valuable lesson until college. Now that you’ve gotten a little insight of my year in AP, feel free to view some of the specific projects i’ve done this year. Oh, and thankyou for taking a look at my work, it’s highly appreciated.
