1. Visualizing

3.1.1. Activating what you currently understand or misunderstand about the topic and using that knowledge before,during and after reading to clarify misconceptions and understand the text.

4. Making Connections

4.1.1. Relating what you read to personal experiences (text-to-self), to information from other text (text-to-text), and to information about the world (text-to-world) in order to enhance understanding of self, text, and life.

5. Synthesizing

5.1. Definition

5.1.1. Creating original insights, perspectives and understandings by reflecting on text(s) and merging elements from text and existing schema.

6. Inferring

6.1. Definition

6.1.1. Thinking about and searching the text, and sometimes using personal knowledge to construct meaning beyond what is literally stated.

7. Evaluating

7.1.1. Judging, justifying, and/or defending understandings to determine importance based on stated criteria.

8. Summarizing

8.1. Definition

8.1.1. Identifying key elements and condensing important information into your own words during and after reading to solidify meaning.
