Student Agency Through the PYPX 作者: Mind Map: Student Agency Through the PYPX

1. Student Perspective

1.1. Idea 1: Assessment of Prior Unit

1.1.1. The idea of allowing students to assess their prior knowledge before starting a unit is outstanding. I can imagine how this would be very helpful for students to visualize and put their hands on what they know about their exhibition, what they still need to learn and inquire about, and then decide on how to get there. Beginning their journey with the end in mind makes learning more effective and meaningful. Teacher Capabilities: I can support students to initiate and engage in their own inquiries.

1.2. Idea 2: Making Decisions Together

1.2.1. Since students will have set up a plan for their exhibition after assessing their prior knowledge, giving them the space and opportunity to make decisions only makes sense when it comes to promoting and allowing agency. As students take part of ongoing reflections, they should be able to adapt, ask questions, and come up with plans that make sense to them to help them reach their goals. Teacher Capabilities: I can support students to initiate and engage in their own inquiries.

2. Teacher Perspective

2.1. Idea 1: Supporting Student Initiatives

2.1.1. During the exhibition (and year round) it is important for students to feel supported and trusted with their initiatives. When ideas come up, we should listen and facilitate ways to assist them with accomplishing their actions. Teacher Capabilities: I can promote student reflection and action in response to their learning.

2.2. At this point, students will be the best ones to lead their learning journey. As they work through the exhibition with their groups, they should be consistently setting learning goals for themselves to get to their end in mind. Mentors and teachers should help guide students with setting their learning goals and facilitate the materials needed.

2.2.1. Teacher Capabilities: - I can support student innovation and creativity through a process of inquiry, action and reflection.

2.3. Idea 2: Learning Plans
